Tips for Golf Beginners

by BreezeMaxWeb, September 27, 2018

Golf is a sport that is very easy to play, but extremely difficult to master. If you are about to play golf for the first time or have only been out a few times, there are a few things you need to keep in mind while on the course. Depending on how you want to play, you can easily enjoy a nice day out without taking the game too seriously or you can practice as much as you can to improve your skills. No matter what your goals are for your golf game, try to follow these tips that will help any beginner.

Stay Calm

First and foremost, if you are just starting out, you won’t be hitting every shot perfectly. Even people who have played for decades still make bad shots from time to time. The first step in having a fun round of golf is to not stress yourself out over a bad shot. If you do hit a bad shot, don’t think about it as you walk up to your ball, reset your stance, take a deep breath, then take your swing. You will be surprised at how better your second shot is if you follow this tip compared to if you start overthinking your next shot and get into your own head.

Know the Etiquette

Etiquette is a huge part of golf as it allows everybody on the course enjoy their day. Nobody will care if you are a beginner learning to play, as long as you follow a few simple rules. The most important piece of etiquette is yelling “FORE” when your ball strays from your hole. This informs other golfers that a ball could be heading their way and to be on the lookout for an errant ball.

The second most important etiquette tip to follow is keeping up with the pace of play. This could include if the course is open in front of your group of four and there is a solo golfer behind you, let them play through when you get to the next tee box. It could also include hitting your ball when it is safe. Let’s say you are 300 yards away from the green with the group ahead of you putting. Don’t wait for them to get off the green to start taking multiple practice swings only to hit it 150 yards. Always hit your ball when it is safe to keep everybody moving at a good pace!
